The College Football Playoff has selected the host cities for the national championship game from 2021–2024: Miami–South Florida
(Hard Rock Stadium) for
2021, Indianapolis (Lucas
Oil Stadium) for 2022, Los
Angeles (the new NFL stadium under construction
in Inglewood, California)
for 2023 and Houston
(NRG Stadium) for 2024.
“When we created the
playoff, we said we wanted to move the national championship
game around,” said Bill Hancock, executive director of the College Football
Playoff. “We have done that. Ten different communities will have hosted the
national championship game in the first
10 years of the playoff.”
The Indianapolis game will mark the
first time that the national champion of
college football’s highest division will be
crowned outside the West or Southeast,
where bowl games largely decided the
champions in the decades before the
CFP started in 2015. “In
addition to the significant
economic impact it will
generate, the event will
also help boost the profile
of Indy through global me-
dia coverage, enhancing
Central Indiana’s brand as
a place to live, work, play
and visit,” said Leonard
Hoops, president and CEO of Visit Indy.
Previous CFP title games have been
staged in Arlington, Texas; Glendale,
Arizona; and Tampa, Florida. This sea-
son’s game will be played in Atlanta,
with 2019 set for Santa Clara, California,
and 2020 for New Orleans. ; J.G.
